[feature request] Adding Bing Chat Compatibility to Chrome Extension #1

Open JST3217 opened 1 year ago

I recently discovered your Chrome extension and have been impressed with its functionality. I would like to request the addition of Bing Chat compatibility to further expand its reach and usefulness.

Benefits of adding Bing Chat compatibility:

Increased User Base: Supporting Bing Chat would allow your extension to reach a broader audience, providing value to Bing Chat users.

Competitive Edge: Supporting Bing Chat would set your extension apart from competitors, as there are limited options available for Bing Chat users. Being one of the first extensions to provide Bing Chat compatibility would establish the position of your extension as pioneers in this area.

Thanks for filing this issue! The problem with bing chat is that it is linked under the same URL as bing search. Therefore, adding bing chat would also enable prompster for bing search which might be undesirable. However, I agree that bing chat support would be a valuable addition so I think this is worthwhile investigating further. Feel free to share further thoughts on the topic. For a quick feedback, would you find it disturbing if prompster was enabled for bing search as well?

I have been using your chrome extension for the past two weeks, and I am pleased to say that I find myself consistently relying on it, despite its current limitation of not working on Bing. Its usefulness on ChatGPT has made it an indispensable tool for me. As someone who extensively utilizes Bing Creative Mode for work, I wanted to share some thoughts and suggestions.

Firstly, I rarely use forward slashes in my search terms, and even when I do, I can easily rephrase my query to exclude them. Furthermore, your extension already allows the use of forward slashes as text with the backspace button, making it convenient to incorporate them when needed. Given these factors, I believe enabling the extension on Bing search with forward slashes would not pose a significant issue. Additionally, considering the relatively low usage of Bing compared to other search engines, the impact of this change on a broader user base is likely to be minimal.

In terms of triggering the extension, I suggest expanding the keyboard shortcut from just '/' to 'ctrl/cmd + /'. This modification would provide a clear and distinct way to activate the extension, reducing the chances of inadvertently triggering it while typing a forward slash. This keyboard combination is commonly associated with shortcuts in various applications, and users are likely to find it intuitive and easy to remember.

Your chrome extension has proven to be a valuable asset for me and I hope many users. Thank you for considering my feedback, and I appreciate the work you have put into creating such a useful tool.

On a side note, I wanted to mention that Microsoft plans to allow access to Bing chat on other browsers, including Chrome. This development is expected to attract a substantial influx of users to Bing Creative Mode, as it is currently the best available free GPT4 model accessible to the public. I have heard about other platforms like Poe and Claude+ offering GPT4, but I have yet to personally test them. Do you have any plans to make your extension compatible with these sites as well?

I would love to use the extension on every form. There are much LLMs and wrappers where Prompster can help us out. Like Cloude or poe.com.

Yeah, just use 'ctrl + /' to trigger the extension. Or a double forward slash '//'. But for all forms.

I just published https://github.com/LucasAschenbach/prompster/releases/tag/v1.3.3 which adds support for:

I expect the version to be publicly available within the next week. There were some complications in adding Bing support which is why it is not included in this version. It seems the key-event listeners are being blocked but I'll have to examine this in more detail.

If there are any other chat bots that you would like to be added, please share them here: https://github.com/LucasAschenbach/prompster/discussions/5

I will leave this issue open until Bing support has been added.
