With the default LARBS config, If X freezes due to driver issues, killing X with the standard ctrl+alt+backspace returns the user to the login prompt, rather than a logged-in shell. Upon login, X starts immediately and the cycle repeats, so there appears to be no way to drop to a console shell to modify Xorg.conf to fix the issue.
