Issue with 5.1 from June 14 #27

Before the update 5.1 from June 14, I was able within Firefox to mark a word on any website, then click STRG and the word and a translation popup from dict.cc with a translation of that special word occurs. That was very helpful to read and translate foreign websites/texts. Now with update 5.1 on Firefox 53.0.3 this is no longer possible: nothing happens

Check two things:

  1. Make sure you are not on a mozilla addons page, because they disable addons on those pages.
  2. Check the addon settings for the keys you need to press to make this work. Settings from older versions of the add-on will not be upgraded and the default keys to press are ctrl+alt.

Related problem as well. In the past it was enough to click on a word, so you just had the flashing text line thingy. Now i really have to mark to whole word which is kinda annoying and mot really possible on some pages. :/ Also the word to translate nomally appeared at the bottom of the context menu, now it's somewhere in the middle where I can missclick too easy oO

Well, it was working perfectly before the update, I never ever had to select the whole word on any page. Actually translating single words doesn't work in any way right now. Not via clicking something in the context menu and not via key combination. The translating appearen in my context menu a few hrs ago was via firefox own search bar thingy. Firefox 53.0.3 x64

I switched back to 5.0.3 and it works perfectly again. o.o

What websites are you trying this on? Have you tried restarting the browser after installing the add-on? Maybe you have another add-on installed which is interfering with the 5.1 one? I don't need to select the word on most pages.

Version 5.0.3 was using the old add-on sdk from firefox which will be discontinued from Firefox 57 on and there is no way to avoid this. Version 5.1 uses the new way to implement add-ons: web-extensions. I'm working with mozilla to make things better on the web-extension front, but the fact is a lot of stuff won't work like it did before and even more will be impossible.

Tried everything. Also tested on a new Firefox profile with only that one addon installed. No success. Doesn't work on all websites I tested. Twitter, Github, Twitch, Kickstarter, Amazon, etc.

What Firefox version are you on? Edit, nevermind, you already wrote it. I'll see if I can find out anything.

Firefox 53.0.3 x64 version mainly, but also bugs around on x32 version. If I can give you any info to debug this, just tell me how ^^
