Houdini Plugin #313

I've been really impressed with this render lately, great work. Is there any plans for doing a houdini plugin? https://www.sidefx.com/products/houdini/

There is some documentation on it here, I haven't looked that deep into it myself. https://www.sidefx.com/docs/hdk/_h_d_k__s_o_h_o__examples.html

Considering how slow the integrated mantra render engine in houdini is, I think there is room for a high quality free render engine.

None of the current developer has Houdini so it is unlikely to happen in a near future. We would like but it is about finding someone with the know-how, time and will to write an integration with Houdini (for free): it is not easy. In general, this is true, not only for Houdini, but also for most other (commercial) applications like Cinema4D, etc.

There is the free houdini apprentice version, although I'm unsure if it supports third party plugins. I might put up a bounty for this though, and time will tell if someone is interested and has the know how.

If Houdini has some popular forum used by many users (like https://blenderartists.org for Blender) you may want to try to open a thread there to gather both users interested and, may be, find a developer suited for the task.

lux render would be dope for Houdini..

I'd also be willing to pitch in for a houdini plugin bounty like I did for the blender version. Luxcore is really an amazing rendering engine.

I'd be willing to try to help with this. (however see below, I think it's probably moot now!)

I don't think I could do it on my own, but if someone within the Lux project can lend some support while I/we try to build a bridge, I'd be very keen to translate that idea into actions! I am not a SOHO expert, but I know other Houdini output very well (I'm a senior pipeline TD at a medium-sized VFX company that uses Houdini a fair bit.) I think I could help with Houdini integration.

Maybe this idea is somewhat made-irrelevant by USD/hydra, all we really need is a Lux 'hydra delegate', right? Looks like I'm miiles behind, and there's already a hydra delegate: https://github.com/jbgann/LuxCoreRenderUSD

Anyhoo, if you want any support with Houdini-anything, I'm keen!

Hello, what's the state of this ? Is there a hydra delegate and nodes i can use in Houdini ?
