You'd need to copy the 1.15 branch and rename it and then merge into that.
As far as I'm aware it's feature complete and identical.
Big things: registering configured features, especially when nested, otherwise the json reader just kicks up a huge stink about stuff.
I had to re-implement the 1.15 boulder as the 1.16 boulder code is completely different. From my side-by-side comparisons though, everything look pretty similar.
The only exception seemed to be with the Steppes -- there was a lot more sand than grass in some parts, but that could just be the random nature of things.
