Stopped Downloading July 2012 #47

I've been using RSS Handler successfully for several years now when it just
stopped working a few days ago (late July 2012)--more specifically I'm still
getting the (updated) list of videos, but the video downloads are failing. Did
YouTube change something that broke this for everyone? If so, do we know what
the problem is and can we get an ETA on a fix? Thanks so much!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

3.0.1 Beta 3 on Windows 7 64-bit (3.0.1 Beta 4 had a showstopping bug for me
which was never fixed, hence why I'm still using the prior beta--although I
just tried using beta 4 now and it still doesn't fix the problem)

I faced the same issue here as well. It happened on the 19th July 2012 to be
exact. YouTube interface change ?

Looks like Google changed something. Also stopped on the 19Th for me. Some
weeks back Google got a hard-on for sites that aided in downloading YouTube
videos. So I am sure this was done purposely. I do understand Google's
position. It cost money to provide the service. If the Ads are not viewed they
loose money. I just want Google to know that some of us with low end DSL with
multi-users just can't use Youtube in real time. maybe we can come up with a
compromise. Provide channel feeds and attach a pre-roll ads to the video.

I am off topic. To get back on topic; Yep it's broke.

I faced the same issue

I did a little more poking around, and it seems that in at least one of the
cases, the url it's trying to resolve just has an extra "http//" in it like so:

http://http//o-o---preferred---comcast-iad3---v2---lscache5.c.youtube.com/videop
layback? ...

Manually removing the dud "http//" allows me to access the video just fine.

If you've been following along, this is actually the same problem that has
existed with Beta 4 for some time, which had caused me to revert to Beta 3 --
see issue 45: http://code.google.com/p/rsshandler/issues/detail?id=45 -- but
now apparently the latest change from YouTube is causing the same problem to
happen on Beta 3 also, and leaving us no other option in the meantime. =(

This really seems like a simple text parsing issue. Can anyone please fix it?
(I'm afraid I'm not a coder, just a different kind of geek..)

something videos I have to download. Can someone provide a fix? Please?
