The z axis threaded rod and nut system wears out very fast, due to the autoleveling feature that keeps it moving during all the printing time. In a controlled test it started giving problems after just 15 hours of printing.
The wearing of the axis causes backlash, formation of metal dust that eventually jams the axis and finally the definitive wearing of the nut and rod threads, the rod no longer holds the nut.
Temporary solutions for this issue are:
Lubricating the rod
Changing the nut
Flipping the threaded rod
Changing the threaded rod
I am trying to change the stainles steel nut for other materials: nylon and brass. I'll report on my experiments.
The problem has been solved by using a nylon nut. They don't show signs of wear off and they are also easier to change than the whole rod-nut combination.
