Visualization Software Implementation #11

Visualization software.
We had gotten this started at one point, but it then stalled when other things
got in the way. I did get the image for the splash screen from my design
guy, it is in our communication channel folder (splash2.png). I think this
would be a good “starter project” for the intern would like to get this
finished since it is a great way to ‘show off’ what we’ve done here with
the motion synthesis stuff and it seems like a good first step for someone
coming into the project since it entails taking a subset of existing code,
rather than building on existing code.

This needs to be fleshed out more - need to verify that this is just a separate
implementation of just the 'Demo-mode' part of SI and TOJ. Also need to figure
out current progress/status.

Ben, in response to your comment #1 - yes, this is just the SI software
stripped of some of the complexity that comes with the auditory component. The
idea is that this would be simple to use – just download the program along
with a few sample Excel files (i.e. some things my students have already made
in the lab). Then people can generate whatever motions they need and simply
use Snapz videos to capture the motions in whatever resolution/format/etc. is
needed for their work.

In terms of specifications this is basically SI software but . . .
1) Use lab logo for icon - attached as "final_head (darker leaf).pdf"
2) Splash screen w/ logo (attached - "splash2.png") and text saying something
like “Visualizer software designed by the MAPLE Lab. Dr. Michael Schutz,
Principal Investigator” and possibly some other text. It would be nice if I
could somehow edit the text since I'm not entirely sure what it would say but
I'm not sure how difficult that would be.
3) Boot straight to demo mode
4) No sound, so interface has only
a. Visual file (remember last path)
b. Data directory/path box (separate from visual file just for cleanliness)
c. Loop
d. Connect dots with lines
e. Number of dots
f. Auto re-load checkbox (not checked by default)
5) I believe that this version will not even need a properties file, but let me
know if that is correct.
6) Ideally, this should be able to run on Mac or PC. In principle this
shouldn’t be an issue given that it is Java-based, but I know that in
practice that isn’t necessarily the case. I don’t want to spend a lot of
development time/$$ on making it PC compatible, but if we can do that without a
lot of additional effort then it would be nice.

Note: I this is copied from text I typed out in a Word document (attached).
With the formatting it might be easier to read there, but the text there is
basically the same as what appears here (I stripped some stuff out here to make
it more compact).

Here is a mockup of the interface. It's rough/kludgy but it contains the basic
elements. I just put it together but cutting and pasting an image of a screen
capture of the demo mode in the SI software.
