This a screenshot from NewRelic, the CPU had been at 99-100% for nearly a day when I stopped the forever process it dropped to a normal level, however restarting it rather than stopping didn't appear to do anything.
I think it may be caused by forever rather than the mc-api server itself.
Furthermore both newrelic and htop didn't appear to be able to pinpoint the process with high CPU usage it just knew something was.
