Change API docs logo? #4430

Open IAlibay opened 10 months ago

IAlibay commented 10 months ago

We currently try to make a distinction between docs.mdanalysis.org as the "API docs" and userguide.mdanalysis.org as the "User Guide". The User Guide has a nice and convenient logo that tells you where you are, whilst the docs don't. Would it make sense to change the logo for the API docs to say "API Docs" or something similar?

@IAlibay can you please assign this issue to me. Also, you have something in mind on how you want this logo to look like. Thanks :)

IAlibay commented 9 months ago

@Satarupa22-SD - this is more of a discussion point than an immediate task, especially since there has been no buy in from any of the MDAnalysis core developers here. I also suspect that this is probably something that they would need to engage with directly.

Satarupa22-SD commented 9 months ago

@IAlibay I see, I have joined the discord channel. Is it possible to connect with them there and bring it to their notice?

IAlibay commented 9 months ago

Can someone from @MDAnalysis/coredevs weigh in here please?

I would leave the API docs logo as the standard MDA logo, given that the “API docs” are directly related to the library itself. This is the most “pure” representation of the core library package and therefore is would keep our standard, unchanged logo.

(MDAKits, on the other hand, might warrant a logo variation.)

@orbeckst @IAlibay I would like to work on the logo for MDAKits then. Can you please create an issue and assign it to me. Else I can directly start working it and create a pr when it's done. Also suggest any idea that you might have for the logo. Thanks! :)

@Satarupa22-SD thank you for your interest. We decided to handle any logo issues internally.
