Issue 30 fix distributed tests

Fixes #30 and some random doc updates

Changes made in this Pull Request:

• explicitly create a LocalCluster and control more of the worker creation and tear down in the tests (using a separate session-scoped fixture for the client)
• doc updates that should have been a separate PR but I cannot be bothered to separate them
