Which device (manufacturer, type)? razr maxx

Which firmware is installed? 4.0.4 6.16.211

What version of wireless tether are you using? tried all of them through stable

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. run wifi tether app
2. tap to start
3. starts with errors and doesn't work

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
obviously it isn't working but also the stock hotspot app doesn't run like it
did on 2.3.6

Please provide any additional information below.

I ran sqlite editor and set entitlement_check to 0 from 1 and rebooted but
nothing
I tried to run the stock wifi sharing app and it didn't work either.

Also, I ran the stock mobile hotspot app and configured it. It actually works
without taking me to the verizon page every time. I went to ipchicken.com and
it was a verizon IP address.

To explain further:
The "What is the expected output? What do you see instead?" section.

What I mean by the stock app isn't running is that when I start the wifi tether
app, it started the stop app in the notification area at the same time. This
isn't happening anymore.

If you change the device-profile to "Generic ICS" and setup-method to "netd"
does this change anything?

When you set those attributes, tether starts without errors, but a client can't
connect properly.

I agree with comment 3. It get's past the authentication but stops at
"Obtaining IP Address..."

Just so you know the stock mobile tether app doesn't come up like it did on my
bionic.

I've tried just about every variation of settings I could think of in an
attempt to make it work. I've tried some other device profiles, tried enabling
MAC security, WPA security, and the results are the same.
