Which device (manufacturer, type)?
motorola droid 2 

Which firmware is installed?
droid version 2.2   / system version 2.3.20.A955.Verizon.en.us

What version of wireless tether are you using?
2.0.5 and 2.0.7 

What steps will reproduce the problem?

wifi tether starts but when you tap to stop it does not stop, manual kill or 
reboot needed.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Please provide any additional information below.

This worked fine with 2.0.5 prior to the verizon upgrade

Sounds like a fucked-up superuser-app or your device is not properly rooted. 
clear data for that app and try again.
