--- multiple contributors, previously published book title: SUSTAINABLE IMPLEMENTATION OF NATURAL STONE WASTE AS CEMENT REPLACEMENT TOWARDS OPTIMIZED CONCRETE title_unchanged: SUSTAINABLE IMPLEMENTATION OF NATURAL STONE WASTE AS CEMENT REPLACEMENT TOWARDS OPTIMIZED CONCRETE abstract: 'El-Shafie, Y.M. (2023). "Sustainable implementation of natural stone waste as cement replacement towards optimized concrete", In: "Environmental Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)", Wang, L.K., Wang, M.H.S., and Pankivskyi, Y.I. (Series Editors). 129 pages. May 2023. Lenox Institute Press, Auburndale, Massachusetts, USA. https://doi.org/10.17613/5vdn-4f05 ..... ABSTRACT: The main prospective is the natural characteristics of the stones. Thus, the optimal exploitation corresponds to their potentials and use possibilities. Ornamental stones include marble, granite and other refined stone types. The use of natural stones encompasses the extraction, transportation, manufacturing (sawing, polishing and cutting operations), shredding, installation and disposal process, which is a burden on the environment and causes health issues, in addition to economic issues. The process of recycling waste from the global industries is very profitable. However, waste is still not exploited in the best way on the industrial and investment level. Thus, the generated stone waste could be implemented in concrete composites in different additive percentage in order to rationalize the use of natural resources. The approach is to capacitate the concrete to absorb other industries waste and by-products. Therefore, the use of stone waste powder has a synergic effect positively on the environment, flora and fauna in addition to reducing the carbon footprint of cement, as a result of less energy consumption.' abstract_unchanged: "El-Shafie, Y.M. --- additional meeting meta title: 'Beyond the Textual: Visual Information Systems that Help and Hinder' title_unchanged: 'Beyond the Textual: Visual Information Systems that Help and Hinder' abstract: Information systems with a visual focus in the arts describe museum and library catalogues, digital libraries, image databases and search engines, all of which have unique requirements that set the visually focused systems apart from their more textually focused counterparts. For users who seek out and examine visual information in the arts as primary sources, the performance of these systems can mean the difference between the success and failure of searching for, assessing, and analyzing visual content. This roundtable seeks to explore visual information systems’ user experiences through the thoughts of visual-information seekers and the information professionals who support them. abstract_unchanged: Information systems with a visual focus in the arts describe museum and library catalogues, digital libraries, image databases and search engines, all of which have unique requirements that set the visually focused systems apart from their more textually focused counterparts. --- additional conference meta title: 'Creating Linked Data with Wikibase.Cloud: Evans-Tibbs Archive Wikibase Project' title_unchanged: 'Creating Linked Data with Wikibase.Cloud: Evans-Tibbs Archive Wikibase Project' abstract: "The National Gallery of Art has been promoting greater diversity in its collections and exhibitions. As part of its efforts, the Gallery’s Library has launched a Wikibase project to increase visibility, connectivity, and accessibility of African American artists and related art information using Wikibase.cloud. Wikibase.cloud, a localized version of Wikidata, provides a free cloud-based platform for managing Linked Open Data. The main goal of the project is to set up an instance of Wikibase in Wikibase.cloud and test this tool for creating, managing, and accessing the information created across and managed within the departments of the Gallery.\r\n \r\nWe, the project team, create Wikibase items to describe the characteristics of African American artists in the library’s Evans-Tibbs Archive and related art information such as their artwork and exhibition histories. Wikibase helps to link artists and their related art information which allows users to search and access information in a more efficient way. Since Wikibase employs linked data structures,\r\nwe examine the potential for Wikibase or Linked Data applications on the Library’s named entity management and to connect information that we do not have a way to connect otherwise. This poster presentation will provide the data models, workflows, and tools we used and the challenges/lessons we learned over the course of this project." abstract_unchanged: "The National Gallery of Art has been promoting greater diversity in its collections and exhibitions. --- embargoed deposit title: Politics as Moderation in Machiavelli title_unchanged: Politics as Moderation in Machiavelli abstract: Machiavelli is often characterized as a radical political thinker. This essay doesn't challenge this view directly, but approaches Machiavelli's originality through a new lens by considering the role of moderation in his political thought. Drawing upon The Prince, the Discourses and The History of Florence, it treats moderation as a binding principle with which to tie together Machiavelli's views on prudence, the via di mezzo, and the model of well-regulated political order. Machiavellian moderation emerges as a dynamic means of managing forces of discord without insisting upon neutrality or passive compromise. abstract_unchanged: Machiavelli is often characterized as a radical political thinker.
