The two tutorials for using the plotQPlane method (e2cb28ea9e1770987df6fcaa37011a59d58b9fcc and b8489dc5f2650e2ec9619278b613f8e9142983e9) showcases the different binning possibilities. The full description is found in the documentation under Scripting Tutorials but a list of possibilities are:
Regarding binning in a powder plot, this feature is provided by the cutPowder and plotCutPowder methods last updated in 99c3652ac95a94539ea371a53455c0d1ac0fd33c
A method is needed to perform adaptive binning, which results in a complete coverage of the measured portion of reciprocal space. However, this method should be able to perform binning in different schemes:
