Running total of monthly uploads for Single-Scoop users #430

Open shaniber opened 7 years ago

Enhancement

Task Description

Keep and display a running total of Single-Scoop users' uploads, displaying it someplace useful, like on the "New Post" drop-down form. Include the next reset date.

Benefit for user

The user will be aware of their current limit for uploading, and how much more they can upload before hitting it.

Benefit for MLTSHP

MLTSHP will have happy, unconfused users.

Risk(s) for not Completing

Users may believe that they have more upload quota available to them than they actually do, leading to them uploading gifs or pics that are less awesome than something that they're saving for the Friday Dance Party, for example.

Copying my comment from #428 because it's more relevant here:

An actual enhancement would be to provide a meter on the posting button (or somewhere else, it's but it's pretty much only useful within the posting workflow) so users can see how much they've used and/or how much headroom they have left.

Now one problem I foresee is that users are metered by data volume rather than post count, but data volume is not easily knowable during the posting process. My impulse is to have the "Upload an Image" field and the "Saved" page both display current "you have nnnMB of image post headroom remaining through the end of this month" messages but that's more likely to intimidate users out of posting as freely as they should be able to.

So I'd like to see others' opinions on how to keep the UX supportive of posting liberally while still allowing users to be informed of their thresholds.
