These are just stray tabs from where an Editor clicked in a blank area. WP just added tabs to accommodate. We remove these periodically and they don't show up on the screen either way.
Are these newlines between each verse also unintended leftovers from the editor? That is not just their natural wrapping point. The reason I ask these questions is I am actually trying to port the existing formats to a new format. My goals with a new format other than RTF, HTML, etc. are as follows:

This is discussed in the Preface. Blank lines are to attempt to keep subjects together.
Some paragraphing is because of sub topics or conversations between one or more people.
You have to remember that NO verse was in the Bible.
I have a question about paragraph formatting. I have provided a screenshot of a passage in Matthew 21 below. It seems that you have two different levels of paragraphs. Is that right?
