Weather provider #602

Open TJMcK opened 1 year ago

TJMcK commented 1 year ago

The help info seems to indicate that I'm able to change weather providers (the default doesn't work for my location). But I can't find a setting function to do this...

Fxsch commented 1 year ago

Go into Edit Widgets from the widgets screen and there should be a settings icon on the right side of the weather widget. When you click that there's a clickable text on the bottom right that reads Weather integration settings. Click that and it takes you to the options, including the option to change the provider.

I can only see the default DE provider option. What should I install to get different providers?

Fxsch commented 11 months ago

Nothing, there are multiple provider options because the app includes that

Here are the steps to change provider, since no one else has shown this.

Add weather widget and select settings.

Then select Weather integration settings. edit2.png

Finally, choose your preferred weather provider.

Oh shoot. I downloaded it from F-Droid. I forgot they don't have non-free dependencies. Is this why I only get the German provider?

exstntlmsnthrp commented 11 months ago

Did you follow the steps I outlined above too change provider? I didn't think those providers were removed in the fdroid version.

I did. I downloaded the apk directly this time and the providers appeared. They are not present on the F-Droid version, only the German one.

I also downloaded mine from f-droid. (Only German provider)

I installed it from F-Droid as well but I don't have the version from the F-Droid repo installed but from the IzzyOnSoft repo, which is just the build from GitHub. That's probably why I have all providers.

Are you finding these other integrations actually working? For me, HERE is silently failing (it stays stuck on the last selected provider). OpenWeatherMap is working, though. However, that only gives data at 3 hour increments, even though it has more info on its website. So two issues:

  1. Can we investigate the HERE problem? And if there is a connectivity problem, it should say so rather than silently fail.
  2. Is there a way to get OpenWeathermap to display hourly info, like the other providers?

Can we investigate the HERE problem? And if there is a connectivity problem, it should say so rather than silently fail.

HERE integration is dead, unfortunately:

Dear customer,

We'd like to remind you that your apps and related services associated with your HERE developer account are not yet migrated. To keep your apps and projects, migrate them to the new HERE platform by April 19, 2024. Accounts that do not migrate within the given timeframe will have their existing HERE developer plan on developer.here.com canceled, and their associated applications and software will stop working.

We have introduced new pricing plans and service rates on the HERE platform. On HERE Base Plan, each service has an individual transaction fee. Unlike the previous billing method on the HERE developer portal where every transaction had equal value across all services, the HERE platform eliminates the need for this equivalency. For more information on pricing and billing, see Customer billing and pricing.

"New pricing plans" = free monthly transactions have been reduced to 2,500 (from 250,000)

Is there a way to get OpenWeathermap to display hourly info, like the other providers?

Sure, if you are willing to pay for it: https://openweathermap.org/price
