mu2 character display #55

Closed sone closed 4 years ago

sone commented 4 years ago

the character display of mu2 files/scores is wrong. it is visible within e.g. acemasiran--aranagme--agiraksak--1--.mu2. there is no such problem with the files within version 2.0 downloadable from the Mus2 homepage.

Hi @sone

Thanks for submitting the issue. To understand better, are you trying to open the mu2 files in Mus2?

sone commented 4 years ago

Hi, yes. i've asked/informed the company behind Mus2 about this issue, too. The answer I've received: it's because the .mu2 file format has changed. Thus I assume a solution would imply a adaption regarding these changes to the .mu2 file format.

Mus2-SymbTr-mu2

Actually, there is no such thing as the format of .mu2 has changed. Only Mus2 v2 supports this type of files.

As I said, the developer/company wrote they have changed it intentionally, for a reason I do not know. Because SymbTr is providing .mu2 files I thought and still think they are intended to work - with Mus2 (v2) of course. The SymbTr database linked from the Mus2 website is working, newer versions of the database are not working.

@mus2alfa would know better than me (since he's one of the original developers of Mus2), but I think, in this case, this is an encoding problem on the Mus2 side. The mu2-scores in this repo has been stored in UTF-8 since SymbTr v2.2 for compatibility with modern standards.

Therefore, there is nothing we can fix on this repo. My suggestions are:

I am sorry that I cannot be more help. If you find this answer adequate, I will add explanation in the README FAQ section and close this issue.

Also, please let me know if none of these solutions work for you or if you have further questions as well as suggestions.

@sertansenturk @mus2alfa Thank you very much for clarifying this issue. I've done tests as suggested. After converted to ISO 8859-9 and Windows 1254 encoding the mu2 files were displayed fine in Mus2 v2. So this answer is absolutely adequate. I'll will ask the maintainers of Mus2 for UTF-8 support and I will report if there will be progress.

Glad that we can be of some help.

PR #56 adds our discussion to the FAQ in the readme. If you don't have anything else, this issue will be closed when the PR is merged.
