Every translation attempt fails with "Microsoft Translator does not support this language pair" error. #28

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Select text to be translated.
2. Invoke Franker.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see the translation in green text near the selected text. Instead,
I see no translation text and am presented with an error panel containing the
message:

"Franker error: Microsoft Translator does not support this language pair: -en.

Supported languages: .

Please, adjust language settings at the Franker extension options page."

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.3.1 using Safari 5.1.7 under Mac OS X 10.7.4.

The following current versions of these extensions are installed and activated:
Franker 1.3.1
JavaScript Blacklist 1.0.1
ClickToPlugin 2.6.5
AdBlock 2.5.35
Ghostery 1.3.0

Please provide any additional information below.
The Franker preferences are the defaults.

The following did not solve the problem:
- Changing the "Translate from" language from "Detect language" to the actual
language being translated;
- Restarting Safari;
- Disabling and reenabling Franker;
- Uninstalling and reinstalling Franker.

Franker has worked correctly for many months. It seems to have stopped working
within the last month. I know of no changes that I have made that could have
caused this problem.

Thank you for your report.
Unfortunately I can't reproduce the issue.

Could you check if these websites are accessible for you?

Please, tell which language you try to translate from. And a link to of a
webpage you try to translate?

As I stated, Franker has worked well for many months, so I wonder whether something about my configuration is causing the problem. My cable modem firmware has been crashing recently since my ISP updated its firmware, so I changed my cable modem to be just a cable modem in bridge mode with my Apple Time Capsule being a router and WiFi base station. Prior to this, my cable modem was my router with my Time Capsule running in bridge mode. My cable modem had its own firewall which is no longer being used. I don't know whether a Time Capsule has a firewall, but I don't believe so.

Are there any firewall settings that might cause Franker to fail?

    No problem accessing both.

I discovered the problem when trying to translate from Swedish to English here (is my memory correct that you are in Uppsala also?). I also tried translating English text, but that failed as well.

Aloha,
Art

If you can access that websites, then I guess we can drop the firewall from the
equation.

Could you check if Chrome's Franker extension work for you? (They share the
code, just trying to understand if that's something with your Safari or other
addons to it that affect Franker)

BTW, not Uppsala, but close. North of Stockholm :)

Chrome's Franker works perfectly. So Safari or something about my Safari configuration must be to blame.

Franker works perfectly with the same Safari and Mac OS X versions on my wife's MacBook Air, so there's something odd about my MacBook, I guess.

Yeah, I think so.
Art, I'll close the issue then if you have nothing against.

In case you find the source of the issue, could you please post the description
here as a comment?

Yurii

    Please do.

I logged in as an administrator (my personal account is not an administrator account), installed Franker as a Safari extension, and it worked perfectly, so something about my personal account must be causing Franker to fail.

I logged in to my personal account and flushed Safari's cache. After doing so, Franker resumed working correctly. Something in Safari's cache must have been causing Franker to fail, but I have no idea what the problem was.

Thanks for taking your valuable time to help me resolve this problem!

Aloha,
Art

So the advice in such a cases is to clean the cache.
Thanks, Art for your cooperation!
