Thanks for pointing out that a README would be helpful here.
I would like this to be useful for finding skins that work with a supported version of MediaWiki. That means if a skin only works on MediaWiki versions up to 1.28 (and isn't being maintained), it should be removed from the repository.
People who are looking for skins for older MediaWiki (for whatever reason) still have the history of the repository available. That information should probably also be in the README.
Pinging some other folks to see if they have any input on this.
Maybe you could tag them in some way e.g. have folders for compatibility branches ?
Or we could make it like for https://github.com/MWStake/nonwmf-extensions, but of course to mentions skins, instead of extensions? 🤔
I'm not sure if the goal of this repository is to track active skins or all skins. Could this be clarified?
Right now it's being used to power codesearch.wmcloud.org which means lots of inactive skins are showing up and I'm trying to work out how to fix this (See https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T286660)
