What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add custom boot to 40_custom
2. Execute sudo update-burg
3. Watch as it is ignored

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the entry added to 40_custom to appear

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Karmic Koala (Grub2)

You should use /etc/burg.d/40_custom.
