I tried testing this before merging into main and thought the gh-pages was taking precedence, but it seems the github pages deployment was replaced with the contents of main (which is just a README).
If we want to retain the github.io for legacy purposes, someone with permissions to the github repo settings should update it to utilize gh-pages (which points to the old content).
