Remove existing texture markings #243

Which area of IMT is your request about? (ex: Lines, Fillers, UI)

Fillers and Lines for segments

Describe your idea clearly and concisely.

The ability to get a blank canvas to work with on road segments. The idea here is to remove, or hide, the in-game textures for lines and lanes. This way you can add custom lane markings without having it clash with the existing textures. This would be a new line option and or filler option that is called “asphalt”. It would essentially be plopable asphalt that you can draw over the segment in either line or filler form. Then you can add your custom lines on top of this layer.

Why would this idea be a good addition to IMT?

At the moment plopable asphalt is needed to hide the road textures. This adds to the prop limit, and also is not very user friendly if you want to copy, paste, or change the intersection. It also is not very feasible for long stretches of roadway. It will make customizing segments much more user friendly!

There is no separate texture for lines and other road markings in vanilla. Everything, including pedestrian crossing is baked into road texture and cannot be removed. If you want blank road get blank road assets. I've seen few road packs on the workshop.

Totally understand about the markings being baked into the texture itself. That's why I was thinking something more along the lines of covering the existing textures with a filler.

Think the pavement filler, but with asphalt and not raised. It would just cover the existing texture with a blank asphalt texture that you can then apply your custom lines above. I'm not sure if the marking tool could even accomplish this since it would require the lines to be above the filler (like layers).

I thought about getting custom road assets, but then that would require a separate road for each road type. An asphalt filler would be more versatile in the long run and not require double the amount of road assets.

Thanks for taking the time to read the request though! I love this mod!
