For the record, we still want to do this. We don't want the connection to privacy.app to seem like we're shilling that membership. If anybody wants to help, that would speed it along. We're happy to open source the code that's on the "other side" of those connections, various reverse-engineered mozilla and google browser api endpoints.
Current version is hard-coded to point to various services on "*.privacy.app".
We would like to do two things:
First, allow users to change what backend server the browser connects to.
Second, allow that configuration to accept "localhost" (or empty string or "null" or something) as an indication to not talk to anything.
