Mailtrain v2 Beta Available - help needed with testing

Dear all,

it's my pleasure to announce general availability of Mailtrain v2 beta. You can find it in the development branch. The repo contains installation scripts for CentOS 7 and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. There is also a Docker image with a docker-compose script provided. All info how to install it is in README.md.

This version should have all features of Mailtrain v1 with a bunch of new things added. Notably those are:

• multiple users and organisational namespaces with fine-grained user permissions (the mapping of user permissions to roles is defined in config file)
• various new features in lists (e.g. list export)
• various new features in templates (e.g. support for MJML, management of files, isolation of template editors to prevent XSS attacks)
• various new features in campaigns (e.g. ability to send to multiple lists with prevention of double delivery)
• multiple send configurations
• ability to localize the UI per user (as opposed to per installation as it was in v1)
• changes in the architecture (await/async on server side, ReactJS-based single-page application on the client side)
• builtin ZoneMTA, which is used as a default delivery mechanism (this requires close-to-zero configuration of the mailer)

Note however that there are several features which I didn't have a chance and possibility to test. In particular:

• LDAP
• delivery via AWS SES
• delivery via Postfix
• delivery via Sparkpost
• delivery via Sendgrid
• delivery via Mailgun
• bounce handling via VERP
• most of the API calls

I would like to ask you for help with testing these features above. If it turns out that there is no one to test the feature, I will assume that that feature is not need and will exclude it in stable release of Mailtrain v2.

If you file an issue, please mark it with v2.0 milestone.

Hi,

We're running the old version of Mailtrain and are planning to move the installation to a new server. So, we're wondering if we should install the beta on the new server instead. Any thoughts? Pros cons?

Overall pretty good - but a few head scratchers. After testing a couple of thoughts....

• I think I get the namespace thing now. But it's not obvious. You should add the explanation from above.
• There should be a way to test the Send Configurations. But there is only Save and Share(??)
• There should be an easily embeddable subscription form. I don't want to send people to another site for the form.
• Not sure how work around the CSRF token with a static site when embedded. Especially when not using js.
• Mongo should be optional through an env variable (#828)
• I wish Redis wasn't a requirement for a small setup
• Some segmentation rules are missing (e.g. open and click count would be nice)
• I don't get the "List > Triggers" page. No button to add - it's just empty.
• "List > Share" also needs some explanation. (Same head scratcher as on the Send Configuration page)
• A test email seems to count into the Campaign stats
• I don't get the "Triggered Campaign". I assume it's like a "RSS Campaign" where the feed is the trigger?
• The "Report" section feels odd and buggy. Creating a report template before one can create a report? And one of the standard reports just failed on me - but I didn't dig deeper.
• For A/B testing I assume I would create a campaign with one list but two different segments?
• Segment option has "equal to" but is missing "not equal to". While possible with composite rule it would still be nicer to have.
• Would be nice to have support in the Segmentation to split the list evenly (e.g. for A/B testing) with e.g. a mod operator.
• 3 (sub)domains feels a little excessive. Why sandbox and trusted? And as for public - I want embedded forms, happy to host linked files elsewhere (why is that a thing for mailtrain?) and don't need an archive. So at least for me - I don't see the need. But of course not a problem.

I would do this, except, installing whatever version of MailTrain I am currently using, on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, was such a painful ordeal, I am not too keen on subjecting my computer to that type of torment. As such, my recommendation for the Beta is to vastly improve and simplify the installation process.

• Installed the v2 on a Ubuntu 18 VM on Azure. Went smoothly.
• Sendgrid email integration works like a charm.
