This issue makes it almost impossible to use Kethane mod without using debug menus or massive reloading. What happens is that as soon as I activate any Kethane sensor(large or small) in its appropriate scanning range, all menu buttons and quicksaving stop working. You can bring the Esc. menu up, but the Space Center button doesn't do anything when clicked(it looks as it should, not like in some "can't end flight now" stuff). It gets "clicked-in" when pressed, but go back to its regular look after being released, without ANY changes to the game(the menu doesn't close, there is no crash, no "x1 warp speed" yellow text shows up.
Windows XP, x32, clean up-to-date Steam version and a brand-new Kethane download, tried with the default installation folder and after moving it manually elsewhere. Happens each time regardless of whether there are any other mods installed or not.
What I have tried and/or discovered so far:
It doesn't seem to be dependent on any factor other than activating the detector(It can be either the default Kethane pack module, or for example Ore scanner from Extraplanetary Launchpads current version). Simply having one on the vessel or switching "detection sound" on/off doesn't activate the problem
As soon as such a module has been activated(even if it gets disabled immediately), it is done for good. Esc menu doesn't let you leave the current game, autosaving and quicksaving is disabled as well(the upper right corner text for saving doesn't show up and save files don't get updated). What is strange, though, the game will mention it like usual if you try saving when throttled up, in atmosphere, about to crash or already obliterated. No menu for active vessel obliterated shows up if you slam into the ground and destroy every piece of the ship
You can quickload to a save from before activating a scanner and if you are fast enough the game will let you quicksave or leave to the Center for a while(like half a minute or so) before getting stuck like before - this time even if the scanner isn't activated again
If you leave to the Space Center using the aforementioned method, the game autosaves - this effectively screws-up the save. After this point(either by continuing now or restarting the game and loading this save) once you go to VAB, SPH or the star map, you are stuck again. You cannot leave them other than killing KSP.exe or using alt+F4(the "back", "launch" etc buttons don't work either). Interface seems buggy in them. In Star Map you cannot load a flight, nothing happens when you try. You can kill or recover a flight, but the confirmation window doesn't go away and you don't seem to get any Science pop-up. After you wait some time and kill KSP, after loading - nothing has changed. All the flights are back as they used to be and the game is unplayable
I managed to get around this by renaming the quicksave to persistent, opening the star map and killing the flight without loading it. The game runs as intended now(except for the problem returning any time I want to use a scanner).
I haven't yet tried extracting Kethane from an identified(discovered once, remembered the position and then restarted game) site to see if this deposit data update is causing this issue as well. I will try it tomorrow and post an update.
