Mail Service #4

Domain registrar will provide free inwards mail forwarding of *@domain to primary and secondary mail servers.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_forwarding

We could eventually use a setup like this:

http://freesoftwaremagazine.com/articles/running_gnu_mailman_at_home/

Plus long term retention of archives.

Would use: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postfix_(software) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Mailman https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getmail

But in cloud, not at home.

Problems:

  1. Complex to setup and maintain.
  2. Outgoing mail not on "whitelist" of non-spammers tends to end up in spam folders or rejected.

There are ISPs that provide service avoiding both above.

Please list some some URLs with pricing and features

Especially looking for (more obscure and cheaper, distinct) secondary MX service:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_host

See especially footnotes: https://www.nber.org/sys-admin/smarthost.html https://www.socketlabs.com/blog/when-using-a-smart-host-is-the-smart-choice/

Just discovered Google offers sufficient email free for non-profits: https://support.google.com/nonprofits/answer/1614602 https://support.google.com/a/answer/6047848

Plus all these "other benefits" except OneEarth which is USA only. https://support.google.com/nonprofits/answer/1614581?hl=en&ref_topic=3247288 I assume we will be eligible as (3)

"Organizations must be currently registered with Connecting Up, TechSoup Global's regional arm. Organizations must be: (1) deductible gift recipients (DGRs) endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) or listed by name in the tax law; (2) charities registered with the Australian Charities and Nonprofits Commission (ACNC); or (3) income tax exempt not-for-profit organizations as defined by the ATO."

https://support.google.com/nonprofits/answer/3215869?hl=en&ref_topic=3247288

But also need to register with Connecting Up:

https://www.connectingup.org/donations/

Please check them out carefully for any problems, benefits and implications for wording our aims.

If ok we can ignore email issues till much later.

NB Not eligible for: "A school, academic institution, or university (philanthropic arms of educational organizations are eligible). To learn more about Google's programs for educational institutions, visit Google for Education."

https://support.google.com/a/answer/134628 Requires formal accreditation

so aims should not imply "academic institution" but research (and education?) for public benefit.

Need samples of comparable aims.
