Base building interiors had no ambient light, and the light dropoff curve was too steep. Given you start at 0,500, you are too far away to see anything. In the above commit I set a higher ambient light for interior buildings, added a wall scone, and made light reach further before degrading.
When I'm in the farmer's hut interior I usually can't see anything, but I can take almost everything.
