What drivers is active in your system ? Kinect SDK (microsoft) or OpenNI ? You
have to make sure that it's the OpenNI one that is used.
Did you tested other processing based kinect apps ?
Version 0.27 will be out soon to support latest openni versions

I have both the kinect sdk and openni..sorry I had installed the kinect drivers
first. as for openni and any other dependent files its as clear as mud to me:(
Is it possible you could give a quick list of exactly which bits of other
installs i need? with links to the correct files?.ive read so many things
already that say to download this or that and now its a mess. And I wasnt
aware I really need processing..but i can try to test with that now.

you don't need processing to run that.
You have to make sure that the openni drivers are used and not the microsoft
ones.
To verify that, go to the Device Manager, and check if the kinect is shown
under "Microsoft Kinect" or "Primesense". If it's microsoft kinect, you have to
enter the properties and change the driver to the OpenNI ones.
Basically, you just have to get java and openni drivers installed. You can find
packages here : http://code.google.com/p/simple-openni/downloads/list
Also, if you choose to work with the x64 version, you have to make sure both
java and openni are on the same page. You can't have a x86 version on one hand
and a x64 version on the other.

You don't have to install the original Sensor-Bin driver, just the Sensor-Kinect
one.
Start with OpenNI, then Nite, then SensorKinect.
