Display original outline of dataset

In plans, depends on https://github.com/MapofLife/database/issues/321

I actually don't think this will be necessary once we have other statistics configured to be visualized in the interface. We are only using dataset count right now because it was convenient, we can add species richness for single dataset views and record count soon.

Not sure I follow. With ‘dataset’ my comment referred to a single local inventory, i.e. what used to show up here (right now nothing shows up on the map) http://mol.org/datasets/6e8ca764-415f-4d02-9a3c-9d86c50c3cd5

This has only ever showed grid cells. Nothing showing for that dataset is another issue (you should see grid cells lit up blue).

This interface has no way of knowing if a dataset is a single geometry or not. The way to support this would be to union all geometry in a dataset into a single geometry, or show the coverage polygon for a given source (not all have this yet). The latter would probably be best, but for datasets with broad coverage (jetx bird maps, for example) you would just see the entire world in a single color.

Thank for the additional explanation. It’s not critical to show polygons here, and for now the geohashes definitely do the trick. But let’s zoom out a bit further by default for inventories consisting of just a few hashes.
