Use case: tool tips / UTF8grid #103

I just came across a technique for maps to encode tool tip information in a tile-like encoding called UTFGrid. I'm not sure if it's become obsolete or not with tiled vector information, but it looks interesting as a media type. Spec Example Blog and it would seem simple enough to put a link template to UTFGrid content along with tile content. I am trying to see if it's much in use these days.

Notably the tooltips in that example page are completely inaccessible to keyboard-only and screen reader users, not sure if it brings any value here for such an observation though.
