Somewhere between Anatomy of a Webmap, [Leaflet 101](Leaflet 101 for LuxembourgJS), and Making your first Map with Leaflet.

+1 that was a good intro at the meetup. I wouldn't mind learning more such as.. what software can I use to do this? I need a webmaps for dummies book..

alukach commented 9 years ago

@spinzel Hmmm... I was thinking about closing this issue as I think the basics were kind of covered. By "the software you use", do you mean what do you need on your computer? It's really just a text-editor and a web browser. Maybe what's missing is that people only watched the creation and didn't actually get a chance to do it themselves during the meetup.

How about I close this and create a new presentation topic request for "Getting Your First Webmap Online with Github", where we all create a basic webmaps (like we did at the 2015-02-23 meetup, but this time we each do our own) and then talk about how to use something like Github Pages (which is what we use to host the website and slides) to put it online? This will be more of a working-tutorial where everyone makes their own maps and uploads them to their own Github accounts, so that everyone will have their own project to experiment with.

Thoughts?

:+1: I would definitely like that, i noticed that other people are at different levels of webmapping, so this might be old news to them...

alukach commented 9 years ago

@spinzel Great, I'll go ahead and do that. Don't stress this being old news to some, it's inevitable that people will be on different levels for some things. I think we should always strive to "explain too much" rather than "not explain enough", and to risk going "too slow" rather than going "too fast".

@spinzel okay, created. This will probably be on the docket for next-months meetup. Go ahead and check it out and possibly '+1' it.

Covered on 2015-02-23: Inaugural Meetup. See website for notes.
