Open source developers often don't get paid enough for their work. If everyone donated $1 for his project, he wouldn't have had to pull off the stunt.

To those who are attacking him, have some empathy.

It's like you're giving out apples for free on a market, but when you lost your crops, and began to starve, no one whom you once helped would give you help in return... and there's someone else taking all your free apples away and selling them. If it's me I would also go mad.
