RFE: Add BlackBerry 10 (Android Runtime) Build Target #481

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
The steps involved:

1. Ensure the build hint "android.min_sdk_version" is 10 or less
2. Build an Android .apk
3. Run apk2bar against the .apk using the repackaging command-line tools
(http://developer.blackberry.com/android/tools/)
4. Sign the .bar file
(http://developer.blackberry.com/android/documentation/signing_multiple_apps_201
6838_11.html)

This would also require a new property page in the Project Properties to store
the BB10 signing keys.

Great 1.1 feature and probably trivial to implement.

I'm very interested in supporting BB 10, I welcome the support of targeting the
"android player". Although I'm hoping this would only be a stop gap because the
Android Runtime on BB10 doesn't support many things, such as Google Maps,
Bluetooth, NFC ect.

I know CN1 doesn't support Bluetooth and NFC yet, but because of the Android
limitations it means you can't for BB 10. My main concern though is, well I'm
assuming, that Native Interfaces will not work then for BB 10? at least I can't
see how it would? this is an issue for me because my next project will require
Bluetooth (won't be starting for a while) So I'm thinking it will be impossible
to support BB10.

Thanks

Android native interfaces mean Dalvik code so it will work just fine on BB10
when we launch support for it.

I think Thomas is referring to this:

verview.html

BlackBerry is working on expanding support to ICS, so this may over time
resolve itself.

Yes I'm refering to the unsupported API's. Hopefully you are right Eric.
Although I don't think Blackberry will spend much time on this now, Android
support was only to get the app numbers up I reacon, obviously they would
prefer people making native apps for the platform, so I cannot see them
spending much more time on supporting Android although I maybe wrong. Guess
it's just a waiting game now.

If that turns out to be the case I don't mind collaborating on a BB10 port. I
should have a device in hand in the next week or so. I was playing with the
Z10 in walmart yesterday... they did a great job

I would help out with a BB10 port where ever I could. Getting my Z10 in a few
weeks, really impressed with them. I think BB10 is going to prove much more
popular than windows phone 8.
