This is a placeholder for me to upload the SWORD module FreVulgGlaire built from the source text.

To install manually, extract the Zip file contents to the SWORD path in your system.

It's not yet been submitted to the CrossWire Bible Society for official release. This issue will be updated when the release status changes, or if I make further updates to the module.

The module features GlobalOptionFilter=OSISVariants which is not supported by some front-end apps. This feature is supported by Xiphos which runs on both Windows and Linux platforms.

To use the feature in Xiphos, in the main window, {Right-Click} to access the Context Menu. The under Module Options | Variants select either Primary Reading or Secondary Reading.

When first opened, only the Primary Reading will be displayed. Selecting the Secondary Reading brings to the display all the parenthesised text items that were marked up using the syntax <seg type="x-variant" subType="x-2">...</seg>. There being no text in the module marked as subType="x-1", this is equivalent to showing All Readings. See Marking variants in the SWORD developers' wiki.

When installed in other apps (such as PocketSword for iOS or And Bible for Android OS), the module should (in theory at least) display All Readings [as the fall-back default].

Unfortunately, PocketSword 1.4.8 currently displays only the Primary Reading as the default. NB. This may be due the way the SWORD engine behaves by default. PocketSword has no UI option in module preferences to select the Secondary Reading.

This module is still experimental and subject to further changes.

Outline method:

  1. Converted the TEI XML files to USFM
  2. Converted the USFM files to OSIS XML
  3. Post-processed the OSIS XML file to add variant markup
  4. Module built using osis2mod.exe and tested in Xiphos 4.0.6a under Windows 7 x64

Software tools:

  1. Notepad++ (with the XML Tools plugin)
  2. BabelPad
  3. TextPipe Standard
  4. Sword utilities
  5. Xiphos

Many other Bible versions are available as SWORD modules from CrossWire and elsewhere. These include several French translations and the Latin Vulgate, as well as original Hebrew and Greek texts. Translations in many other languages are available. There are compatible Bible study apps for most platforms.

Tentative plans:

This will enable users of apps such as Xiphos to take advantage of the variants feature, while providing other app users access to the unfiltered text content.

Only a semicolon needs inserting in the .conf file to implement the former. Simples!

The latest build of the module does have (italicised parentheses) in the Psalm titles.
