Cannot download files from LAN to external SDcard using EBD #815

I use a Samsung tablet SM-T520 running Android 4.4.2.
I am unable to download files from my LAN to the external
storage card using Ebookdroid. I can, however, connect
to the LAN and download to the external SD card using
ES File Explorer, but this adds several steps to the
download process, and many more steps to delete books
after they have been read. I would much prefer to use
Ebookdroid for the entire download/read/delete process.

I find that when I am called to specify the download
directory to EBookdroid, the contents of the directory
change when compared to what I see when I use EBookdroid
to browse the file system.

For example, if I enter EBookdroid and search "local files"
and choose the /mnt/extSdCard directory I see all the
files put there by ES File Explorer and which can be
accessed by EBookdroid.

However, if I specify /mnt/extSdCard in the "save and
close" dialog, the result shows a very abbreviated list
of the contents of the external card. Moreover, when
I click OK, the file is not saved.

The alternative of choosing /storage/extSdCard does
not store the file either.

It is a known issue of android 4.4: external sdcard mounted as media storage
and accessible to software only as read-only. If you have root, you can google
for permission fix for external sdcard on android 4.4

Feh. What secret does ES File Explorer possess that enables it to read from
and write to the external card on an unrooted unit?

FWIW, Samsung's latest automatic android 4.4.2 update (pushed to us July 27)
has finally destroyed the ability of ANYTHING except Samsung's 'My Files'
utility to write to the external sdcard. Hours of phoning customer support,
with the outcome being that nothing the user can do can fix the problem. They
issued an RMA to send it to their repair service, but I have a nasty feeling
that they'll just put it through some sort of automated process that decides
everything is up-to-date, no problem, and send it back.

If you can write to the card now, disable automatic OS updates. Writing from
the LAN to the internal card and then using My Files to copy to the external
card is as big a nuisance as removing the card and writing to it difectly with
the computer.

We know what trick "ES File Explorer" uses for write on external SD card.

But:
1) It can be fixed in next update
2) App can be banned for that tricks

Also what is good for file managers not always suitable for other applications.
