Week 1 - (9/14/15 - 9/20/15)

Week 2 - (9/21/15 - 9/27/15)

Week 3 - (9/28/2015 - 10/4/14)

• Helped Martin research how to implement and register a listener object with the Android OS. Instead of implementing an always running listener thread, which would impact battery life, we determined that it is possible to add to the application manifest to register with the OS that a call back function was to be implemented whenever a SMS text was received. Essentially the Android OS will take care of listening the event and will even take care of spawning an individual kernel thread for each message received
• Demoed with Martin the ability to send text messages with the SMSManager class within an application

Week 4 - (10/5/2015 - 10/11/2015)

• Re worked database so that now a provider will pass an instance of the database. This allows the program to switch back and forth from using the actual database. Week 5 & 6 - (10/11/2015 - 10/25/2015)

• Completed functions required for database in minimum working system. The database now supports the retrieval and updating of various settings, as well as the logging of all messages that are replied to. Week 7 - (10/26 - 11/1)

Week 8 - (11/2 - 11/8)

This week was essentially trying to power through the remaining database functions which included the following additions (Commits: ):

• completed the remaining Response log functions, such as getting certain ranges of logs within a specified date range. These additions will most likely be used in the UI. Commits: 987a52f624b16f06109c8c9164d45c609e419575

• Implemented all of the functions for the Group table, but remain untested (although as half of the use convenience functions that have been tested I feel reasonably safe as to their functionality)
• Created a few handy convenience functions for the database that I should have created a while back, this resulted in some code cleanup to the database functions (with more on the way)

Week 9 - (11/9 - 11/15)

Something to be noted, I had to resolve technical issues with my PC in the senior design lab. My PC received an update for Windows (insert derogatory comment about Windows here) and my PC could no longer connect to the internet. I kept getting an invalid IP configuration error. Eventually I determined that my PC had lost the ability to automatically obtain an IP address and had to manually enter a static IP to be able to connect to the internet.

Things I got done this week:

• Completed unit testing for all Group table functions as well as fixed the bug that I found as a result. Commits: 8f2cee3c9708c0c8e59eba651579a5a82cda7ec6

• Implemented inheritance in the database. What this means is that if a contact has it's inheritance column set to true, when the data base is retrieving info for that contact, it will load the response and permissions of the group into the Contact being returned. • Updated and fixed the TestDBInstance as well as the EvntHandler Unit tests. Commit: 09c06a314aa718ae8be6892bc51cd4f60e1cb430
• Helped Martin with problems that he was having Unit testing the android activities.
• Researched how to make full use of the ListView container in Android, with the goal of learning how to create a ListView where only certain line items will have buttons/switches. According to http://www.vogella.com/tutorials/AndroidListView/article.html I will need to create a custom adapter to handle this.

Week 10 - (11/16 - 11/22)

This week was primarily working on the Settings activity:

• created a custom list view adapter, thanks to a helpful tutorial from http://www.vogella.com/tutorials/AndroidListView/article.html. What a listView adapter does it allows you to load a custom view into each row of the listView and to program each row's behavior. What I did was make it so that as specified each row could have a title with a description below it and/or a switch to the right. • made the default contact settings from the general response page all available within the settings activity (I will be soon deleting the General Response activity as it was only created to be for demos until the application was further along). Week 11 - (11/23-11/29)

• Updated the app style to a darker color scheme. This was done to provide more contrast with various buttons and toggles and make them easier to see. The switches in particular were almost invisible against the white background. Commit: 0415907461e60bb3ee378d1d19a1deb9cc774894
• Worked on location based features (replying with current location or enabling the auto responder while driving). I determined that getting a location is not quite as straightforward as I had hoped (http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/location/strategies.html). It appears to be that I can chose from several different sources (with differing levels of accuracy) for a location, each with different impacts on battery life. Week 12 - (11/30 - 12/6)

• worked on changing the behavior of the custom time delay setting. I had realized that if you select the custom time delay, then change the time, the custom time would be updated. Currently I have added a listener to the editTextView so that the database will be updated every time the text is change when that option is selected. Week 13 - (12/7 - 12/13)

• completed location request functionality. Now when a contact that has been granted the location permission texts the user "where are you", the EventHandler will reply with the current address provided by Google Play Services, and also with a URL to google maps with the users current latitude and longitude encoded. Clicking this URL or copy pasting it into a browser will show visually where the sure currently is.
