Errors and closes almost immediately after running syncthingctl-1.4.8-x86_64-w64-mingw32.exe on Windows 11

I see an error but then the popup window closes and I have no idea where to find the error log.

If syncthing is not currently running: It tries to reach the local syncthing 127 address and if syncthing is not running it closes after around 2 seconds just after briefly showing an error and no tray icon.

If syncthing is running: It shows the above then some stats briefly but then closes the window and no tray icon.

In both cases, there is no Syncthing Tray icon on the bottom right of Windows 11. It seems to crash and not start the tray.

Not sure how to troubleshoot this since I can't see the Error long enough to determine what the Error is. It is opening a dos like prompt and trying to connect to the 127 address, though but then just closes with the Error that I can't read fast enough.

Any suggestions?

You have been using the command-line interface syncthingctl. For the tray icon, download syncthingtray.

By the way, it would have helped to not completely ignore the issue template. It explicitly asks you what components are affected and going though the list of components would have made it obvious that you have been using the wrong one.

Ahhhh, thank you. I didn't realize there was more to download below this link at the "Show all 22 assets": https://github.com/Martchus/syncthingtray/releases

I saw the Source code at the bottom and assumed all the rest was source code or such.

However, now Google Chrome is saying "Dangerous download blocked" and i'm not certain currently how to get by that.

Maybe I find the time and motivation to create a website at some point. This project is really exceeding what the release section on GitHub is good for now. I was also shortly confused myself about this when checking whether everything has been uploaded correctly.

That the executable is flagged as Virus by many scanners is currently a problem. I haven't seen this message in Chrome yet but I'm also mainly using Firefox. So I cannot help with that except telling you that it is a false positive.

Yeah, I got to a point where I told it to keep the file anyway (I even removed the .exe part of the file name) but it failed and showed this: syncthingtray-1.4.8-x86_64-w64-mingw32.zipFailed - Virus detected https://objects.githubusercontent.com

Can I close this issue? The confusion about the wrong executable should be cleared up now.

There's not much I can do about AV software producing false-positives right now and I also think this problem is on the AV vendors. This has already been discussed in an excessive number of other issues before.

Sure.

(I gave up on downloading Sync Tray for now, and am just using the syncthing by itself.)
