We could order cupcakes instead of making them:

Kissed cupcakes is closer to Naturalbridge. Interesting thought that their cupcakes are more expensive!

this seems to be a good bakery in Lynchberg. They don't have a homepage though.

Then we were also thinking of having pies. So maybe we could bake some pies and order some cupcakes.

Local cupcakes - Gilberts got 5 local bakeries to make small sample cakes, all on the same day, and then they had a taste testing at home. Sounds like fun, even if we don't use any of the bakeries for the wedding.

I see 2 problems with "we could bake some pies". 1 - We'll all be too busy at the time pies would need to be made.
2 - We would need another set of plates and forks to eat the pies. Cupcakes just need fingers.

$29 per dozen

The shipping charges for our cupcakes are $20 for the first dozen and $15 for each additional dozen. We also offer Saturday delivery for an additional fee.

....so for ten dozen the price would be $445 including shipping fee without Saturday delivery fee

if somebody picked them up: $290

That's a lot of money for cupcakes. $445 is 9% of the total you want to spend. Unless you have a sentimental attachment to those cupcakes, maybe it would be worth looking for something local and cheaper and see if they are as delicious. Just a thought.

Turns out a pie (apple, blueberry, cherry, etc) costs about $27 and fees 6-8 people so about the same price as cupcakes. Dwight and I will do some testing next time we're in VA. Really no reason to add shipping costs to this. I am sure we will find something tasty in Lexington. Most of the smaller bakeries don't have running webpages with enough information to coordinate this out of Boston
