A magic mod based on "aura": Every part of the world has some properties; Deserts are hot, Ice plains are cold, Jungles are humid, etc. These properties emit biome-based aura; meaning you can use fire-based magic easily in deserts, ice-based magic easily in snow areas, and water magic easily near oceans or rivers.
There are also factors other than biomes; There can be one or two extra noise maps of aura, as long as these do not have the opposite property of the biome-based aura.
Structures and such also emit aura; Lava lakes provide fire aura, which may even override the natural aura in that area. temples may provide a holy aura, and ruined portals a dark aura. (for lack of a broader view of aura types)
These auras not only affect what magic is fast/efficient/strong to cast, in areas where one element is strong, mobs may spawn with stronger abilities, resistance to magic or even cast it themselves in rare circumstances.
