This is a potential future enhancement. 
DEP would like this functionality.
Perhaps the editing draw tools code can be reused.

Aleda 11/12/2015 - I think this would still be good - a button that provided a menu of shapes? point, line, circle, square? Ability to add a little text, change the colors....

@MassGIS This is not a trivial task. Would a user want to be able to have these appear on a printout or be avaialble as part of a data export?

Not as part of a data export. Printout would be nice, but if it is too hard they could always take a screenshot. I'd say first stab as it would be one color - point, line, poly and text. No ability to change colors.

Do you need to know from the beginning if we should print? Otherwise we could forgo it for now and possibly add it later... just throwing out options.

We can treat this as task one of two. One = drawings stay only on map. Two = a separate issue that you'll create to allow drawn objects to show up on a printout.
