What seems to be the problem?
code:

public static void main(String[] args) {
        try {
            DexBackedDexFile dexFile = DexFileFactory.loadDexFile(dexFileName, apiLevel);
            DexPool dexPool = DexPool.makeDexPool();
            dexPool.writeTo("/tmp/out.dex", dexFile);
        } catch (IOException ex) {
            System.out.println("Exception: " + ex);
        }
}

What is the exact smali/baksmali command that you ran?

dexlib2

What version of smali/baksmali are you using? What rom are you working
from?

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Please provide any additional information below: error messages, symptoms,
etc.

If you can provide the classes.dex you were using, that would be helpful. But
if not, that's understandable :)
