Maybe we can have a "secret" LaTeX command? Or bury this within the "thesaurus" metadata section?

Can you make the checkbox conditional on whether you are in the PM admin group? That should be good enough.

Good idea. Another thing we discussed was just making the "PlanetMath docs" into a collection, and giving everyone who's an admin editing rights to that.
