Slow Games #49

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Most if not all the game on Desmumewii run way too slow, i don't see the point
of fixing graphical problems if you cant even play the game a full speed.

Who care if Mario looks like a blob, as long as the blob can finish and beat
the game.

1) This was not a BUG report.

2) To quote :-

"i don't see the point of fixing graphical problems if you cant even play the
game a full speed."

The POINT of fixing graphical problems and the hours of work we've put into the
GX core is to speed up emulation. The GX runs 3D games much faster than the
software raster ever did or ever could.

3) To quote myself "You really have no idea do you!"

Meaning - I guess you have no idea what technically it takes to get a FULL
speed DS emulator on WII. Even the windows version on a quad core 64bit
windows box has problems running some games at full speed.

4) and ... Yes we are AWARE that games don't run at full speed!

5) I'm not trying to be an ass but it's just a waste of time when people add to
the projects issues with obvious problems and comments. The developers on this
project have put in hours of work just to make desmume run on WII.

I agree, many people are ungrateful about this project (including nulldc) due
to their skepticism that the wii "doesn't have the hardware capable of running
at decent speed" blah-blah-blah.

Here's food for thought, look at the N64; the N64 uses a 64-bit CPU and the Wii
uses a 32-CPU. Under normal circumstances, the two can't communicate with each
other, but using dynamic recompiler (aka dynarec) code, an emulator for a 93MHz
console can run most, if not all games at full speed on a 32-bit 729MHz CPU.

The Wii64 team has made tremendous strides in the emulation scene, just as the
DeSmuMEWii team; both deserve credit where it's due. Anyone who goes out of
their way to discredit or insult these teams needs to shut up, back off, and
just wait for the inevitable optimizations that will make these awesome
emulators even better.

I think the first thing you should do, though, is implement frameskipping so
you can play at a reasonable pace, even if the framerate is too slow. Just so
you can skip those long-ass cutscenes at the beginning of the game :P

We've had frameskipping forever. Press + and - on the wiimote to increase and
decrease it respectively. You can play many games at fullspeed by utilizing
this.
