when resuming a paused video (10 mins) program locks up. #664

When resuming a video (loaded from a USB drive with a fat32 partition)
which has been paused for 10 mins plus, mplayer-ce locks up. I need to do a
hard reset and reload mplayer.

The hdd is also used for USB game loading and works fine (resumes paused
games fine).

The HDD is a WD Passport Elite. I have removed the drive from the USB
caddy, connected with SATA, and used hdparm to set spin down to 5 hours.
Problem still occurs.

One fix may be to have a 'keep-alive' setting. When enabled, a paused video
will access the usb drive every 30 seconds (by doing a directory list or
something). This will ensure the drive does not spin down.

I'm having the same problem, but with a 1.5 TB Samsung HDD. For me however the
event takes only a minute or two tops. From what I can tell the problem arises
when the HDD has been inactive, it goes into sleep mode & isn't woken when
playback resumes. I've found that unplugging and replugging the HDD works fine.
Perhaps some sort of keep-alive communication from the Wii to the HDD is needed.
