MPlayerCE died irregularly

I am using MPlayerCE v0.76 and some times it can not start. It dies at the
screen of "Loading MplayerCE v0.7.6..." without any reason. Then the wii
does not respond any more and I have to restart it. I have tried
reformating my SD card and copy MplayerCE again but it does not help.It
still happens irregularly. The chance to die is between 1/4 to 1/3.

Another issue is when I play movie from USB drive, the control changes to a
strange mode, also irregularly. In this mode there no menu can be toggled
and Home button and button 1 of remote control change subtitle delay,
direction button works fine, and all other buttons won't work. I have to
restart the wii one or more times before it play normally.

I am using fireware 3.1e on my wii, which I bought around 3 years ago. I 
updated it only one time through internet right after purchase. NO hardware
modification.

I did not install cIOS.Could this be the reason?
