Priiloader (rarely) don't load #159

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.I turn on my Wii
2.Priiloader don't load
3.I see the System Menu

So i don't see the Priiloader Menu...

What version of priiloader are you using? On what ios/system menu?
v0.6 (r123), IOS70 no patches and System Menu 4.2e

Do you have any IOS patches installed? (if so which ios and what patch?)
IOS36/236 (Trucha Bug, ES Identify, NAND Access), Waninkoko's and Hermes' cIOS
(latest version)
I also have the latest version of Homebrew Channel and IOS58.

What are your wii system menu settings
Wi-Fi, some patch (with hacks.ini for my system menu region and version), Theme
Changed.
I also use an HardDisk.
That's all.

what are your autoboot/return to settings and how do you shut down?

Original comment by dac...@gmail.com on 14 Jan 2011 at 6:35

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Autoboot: Disable
Return to: System Menu
Shutdown to: off

I usually turn off with Power button.
Rarely from some app like SysCheck.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
ye but what is loaded at the time when you press the power button is important
:/

Original comment by dac...@gmail.com on 14 Jan 2011 at 9:44

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
example btw
shutdown from System menu will cause priiloader to handle shutdown
shutdown from HBC(or some homebrew) wont cause priiloader to handle shutdown
depending on who shuts down it can be a priiloader issue setting it to return
to ( bootstate 3 or 255 could also cause this but thats only from a GC game) or
some other application...

I shutdown from a game (that is loaded from Wiiflow)...It use IOS249.

Original comment by ZRicky11 on 15 Jan 2011 at 11:35

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
and does it depend on what game was loaded? or what c(rap)ios was used for the
game?
also, asa you can reproduce it over and over again enable the debug output and
see what it says about the bootstate

cIOS rev20 and Call of Duty Black Ops.
I also tried v0.5...it happened more often than v0.6

Original comment by ZRicky11 on 15 Jan 2011 at 1:05

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
so on 0.6 it happens less but that game & cios always cause it to happen?

also, forgot to say
enable the gecko output setting in settings and see what it says about the
bootstate (note : with this setting priiloader can boot very sloooowly since it
does a 2s sleep after every gprintf)

well, if it says 3 on startup then i dont know why the hell its on 3
if its on 255 then i need the information its giving.
also; i let some wiiflow users try it last night and it was working fine for
them...

I'll do some tests with some app...I use only SysCheck, USBLoader GX (2 times
to test it) and some other...let's see

any app that would cause this to happen is fine.
all i need is the bootstate & the information its giving about it :)

Original comment by dac...@gmail.com on 18 Jan 2011 at 5:58

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I have configured Priiloader 0.6 to autoboot to USB Loader GX using a forwarder
.dol.

This works fine "most of the time". However, sometimes I power on the Wii and
it boots to the System Menu. If I then turn off the Wii and turn it back on, it
properly starts USB Loader GX.

I haven't found a relation to the app that was last run when the Wii was shut
down.

do what i stated above

"enable the gecko output setting(or debug setting; depends on what its called)
in settings (not hacks!) and see what it says about the bootstate (note : with
this setting priiloader can boot very sloooowly since it does a 2s sleep after
every gprintf)"

I enabled the Gecko Output option, and saw some text flashing in the upper left
corner of the screen, just before the screen is blanked (by System Menu or the
installed dol). Is that what I'm supposed to read? And should I enter the
Priiloader menu or let it boot normally?

Each time I try to start Guitar Hero 5 with a wrong IOS it freezes on a black
screen. I then hold the power button for 3 seconds to power off the Wii and
then restart it, and it shows "Bootstate: 255" and 2 more lines below it, but
it's gone before I can read it.

eug
255 again >_>

well, i sadly need those 2 lines that disappear real quick... maybe if you can
record it into a video you can slow the video down or upload it?

wait a minute, if it loads the installed dol then thats normal behaviour

also, from the issue report i'd say its an issue about it booting the SM
instead of the autoboot setting

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Unfortunately it's hard to reproduce on command. Sometimes it boots the .dol
(which is the "Autoboot" setting), and sometimes it boots the System Menu
(which is the ReturnTo setting).

Anyway, here's an example I managed to capture on video:
--------------
  resolution is 640x614
  BootState:3
  ReturnTo:System Menu
  using 0000007F for booting
  entrypoint 00003400
  Hacks: 39
Found Replace Health Screen with Backmenu @ 0x81656344, (...)
--------------

What I did before that:
- Start Wii (which starts USB Loader GX @ IOS249 via priiloader)
- Launch Guitar Hero 5 @ IOS250
- Exit to Menu (which starts USB Loader GX via patched return address, NOT
priiloader)
- Shutdown Wii (by holding power button on wiimote)
- Start Wii (by pressing power button on wiimote)
- (See above...)

so for some odd reason the game gives bootstate 3? :s

bootstate 3 means return to; not anything i can do about that

and im guessing when it boots the installed file it'll be 255? :/

dont really know if its related but here it is anyway.

priiloader autoboot and return to system menu and ignore stand by on. wiiflow
return to wiiflow channel. while in game power off holding the power button for
5 secs [red], press power button and wii goes into stand by [orange]. must
press power again to boot wii.

priiloader autoboot and return to system menu and ignore stand by off. wiiflow
return to wiiflow channel. while in game power off holding the power button for
5 secs [red], press power button and wii is not in stand by [green]. however
still must power again to boot wii.

priiloader autoboot and return to system menu and ignore stand by on. wiiflow
return to disabled. while in game power off holding the power button for 5 secs
[red], press power button and wii boots normal.

only notice this behavior from wiiflow with return to channel enabled and when
power off while in game any game doesnt matter.

when shut down from system menu the wii will power off and boot properly.

so its all wiiflow related and not priiloader?
if so; why post here then?

Original comment by dac...@gmail.com on 2 Mar 2011 at 3:07

because i thought i might be related to the original issue.

showing that it was the game loader and not priiloader.

well, that does tell me alot.

the question remains tho if the same game, with the same cios but a different
loader changes the reaction of priiloader

run the magicword dol found on this site. run it and priiloader should pop up.
if it doesn't im guessing priiloader isn't installed (and the 106 "errors" are
warnings, and wont do any harm)

create a folder in the apps folder, name it loadpriiloader and place the dol
there. name the dol boot.dol and run it from HBC >_>

It seems to be that if Standby is set to on in System Menu I get problems.
Being that holding down console power button (whilst in game via wiiflow) I see
whatever I have set 'return to channel' load briefly before the wii shuts down.
Upon pressing console button to start wii again, priiloader loads, but with the
message (I think) bootstate 5 : shutting down.

I've tried many (if not all) manor of settings in both wiiflow (return to
channel) and priiloader autoboot, return to, ignore standby etc...

Which brings me to my really stupid question... ignore standby in priiloader
settings, should it effectively turn standby off (in system menu)....? standby
being the orange light.

Now I feal like a complete twat for asking that, I'll add that I'm not sure
this is relevent to this report (although it seems to be to comment 22)

go to the wiiflow settings and check if you have any return to set to wiiflow
if you have it set to wiiflow disable it and enable return to autoboot in
priiloader.
in the wiiflow channel we were talking about this yesterday and it seemed
having both in wiiflow and priiloader set to boot wiiflow on return something
went completely wrong

and the ignore standby makes the wii shutdown when system menu shuts down the
wii (which is done by all official code loaded in official ways. usbloaders can
chance what shuts down iirc)
