GameCube only - not displaying all snapshots #550

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Load a rom
2.Save more than one snapshot for same game during gameplay
3.Enter load menu

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
There should be all snapshots shown, but there are only one, two or three,
depending on game.

Does this issue occur on SNES9x for Windows 1.52? If so, please report the
issue on the Snes9x forum.
No.

What version are you using? On GameCube or Wii?
4.2.1 for Gamecube

Are you using the official build (from the downloads page or auto-update)?
Yes.

Please provide any additional information below.
I believe this arised when png thumbnails were introduced in version 4.2.0,
however, i wasn't able to test it there much because of random crashing issue
while entering menu. (thanks for fixing that!)

More to the point, when you make 5 or 10 snapshots for the same game, it will
only display 1-3 of them, but the rest of them still ARE in "saves" folder on
SD card.

Furthermore, if i start a game, enter save menu and create 10 snapshots without
exiting the menu, they all will be displayed when i want to load. But if i
overwrite just one snapshot when no matter how big or small gameplay progress
was made, the rest will not be displayed again, only that one. That's how it
was for Lost Vikings 2 (U) for example.

For other games it behaved in the same or very similar way, with same result.

I tried multi-snapshoting on 4.1.1 and it was working perfectly. I used 4.1.1
as a reference point because 4.1.2 can't access roms folder on my SD card for
some reason, and versions 4.1.8 and 4.1.9 refuse to open save or load menu.

P.S.
This may be a bit out of place but still, while i was playing around with 4.1.1
i tried The Mask (U) and (E), they were working perfectly fine with it
(actually on all of them from 4.0.0 to 4.1.1), but on 4.2.0 and 4.2.1 i get a
black screen after i load them. I can access the menu though and load something
else.

P.P.S.
Please, don't hate me for somewhat longer additional info. :)

I've tested on 4.2.2 GameCube and it sometimes happens that the snapshot image
doesn't show up. This would be an out-of-memory issue. To fix this would
require improving the memory usage further...which I'm not prepared to do at
this time.

re: game issues like The Mask, this is because the core changed from Snes9x
1.51 to 1.52 - that's an issue with the core that the Snes9x team is already
aware of.

Well, it's not such a critical issue as random crashes were (thank you again
for fixing this) so there is no pressure. Most important thing is they work and
you can always save at least one slot with any game that loads. If you grab
some time and will in the future for this, it would be great. :)

Thanks for clarifying about core change, that also explains probably why there
is some sound clicking while you're fast forwarding emulation on later
versions, as opposed to older ones where it's all crystal clear.
