Chrono Trigger - Screen Flickers When Entering a Battle #614

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Play on Unfiltered or Original for Video (Original looked best for my CRT TV
on 480i)
2.Go into to a battle (The first battle you can get into is the giant robot cat
at the fair, if it helps)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expect a smooth transition where the characters take out their weapons during
the noise it makes whenever a battle starts. On the Emulator however, the
screen jumps and turns black for a split second. Can be seen at this users
video (Not me, but someone else.)

Does this issue occur on SNES9x for Windows 1.52? If so, please report the
issue on the Snes9x forum.

No it does not.

What version are you using? On GameCube or Wii?

I am using the Wii version.

Are you using the official build (from the downloads page or auto-update)?

I am using the official build.

Please provide any additional information below.

I have tried many different Rom dumps to see if it could possibly be the rom
itself, but I have tried plenty of verified and Unverified Roms, they all
produce the same result.

I have also tested some of these Roms on the ZSNES emulator. It doesn't produce
the screen flicker.

Just in case, I'll attach my settings for this game.

Rendering: Original
Scaling: Default
Filtering: None
Screen Zoom: 100/100
Screen Position: 0/0
Crosshair: Off
Videomode: NTSC (480i)

Being used through a Component Wire on a 32 inch CRT TV.

sorry, this is as good as it gets. either use filtered/unfiltered, or live with
this little inconvenience.

Is there a reason why this occurs? It doesn't bother me, but I was just
curious.

I would use unfiltered, as it seems like it would make the transition a little
smoother (There is still a jump) but when I use unfiltered, the screen seems
very unstable of sorts. It's like the pixels are moving up and down at a very
fast rate... it gets really annoying. (Could have something to do with the
refresh rate of the TV) And the Filtered is horrible looking, all the pixels
are blurred to the point where I'd rather just deal with the little jump. I
realize I could apply filter effects, but they slow down emulation, and I dun
like that. I'm sorry that I'm being pushy, but could you at least explain to me
why this happens? I actually read somewhere it could have something to do with
timing of the music and the game, but I don't know anything for sure.

I suppose this problem is already fixed, right? Doesn't seem to happen in the
last version.
